the Next Step in gaming interface?
As just announced on the BBC, Emotiv has just released a $300 headset that "reads minds," so to speak. Over the past number of years, they've made steady development in a device that uses external EEG to read the electrical impulses in the brain and translate them into corresponding actions or even emotions. It has now been released on the market in collaboration with IBM, who emphasize that not only gaming but communications and general program interface can benefit.
It should be interesting to see how gaming in particular evolves with the addition of this intimate interface; my hope is that it will encourage the development of "human" games, of games that aren't targeted solely at teenage boys at least, to take advantage of the wide range of people that will be able to interact with the game with this new level of intuitive control.
Imagine something like the Myst series without needing to point and click at everything but simply exploring with a mere thought....
