熊本もりもり!

僕は熊本学園大学の留学生だった。日本語で書いてみている、でもまだ下手だね、(これがもう見て知ってるだろう。^_^;) ごめん! I was an exchange student at Kumamoto Gakuen University, and I apologize for my horrid Japanese writing skills (or lack thereof).

the Next Step in gaming interface?

As just announced on the BBC, Emotiv has just released a $300 headset that "reads minds," so to speak. Over the past number of years, they've made steady development in a device that uses external EEG to read the electrical impulses in the brain and translate them into corresponding actions or even emotions. It has now been released on the market in collaboration with IBM, who emphasize that not only gaming but communications and general program interface can benefit.

It should be interesting to see how gaming in particular evolves with the addition of this intimate interface; my hope is that it will encourage the development of "human" games, of games that aren't targeted solely at teenage boys at least, to take advantage of the wide range of people that will be able to interact with the game with this new level of intuitive control.

Imagine something like the Myst series without needing to point and click at everything but simply exploring with a mere thought....

(a bit of cross posting)

Many people don't know this, but our campus is, in fact, haunted. This specter first made its appearance last Halloween in a chemistry professor's office. A photograph was taken, but alas! By some supernatural mischief, the picture was lost and the apparition itself disappeared beneath sketches of organic molecules. What follows is a reproduction of what was witnessed:
This "Whiteboard Ghost" has since returned and made several appearances around campus. I've cataloged what sightings I could with my camera phone and hope that others will join me in this endeavor!
This next one was in one of the second-floor classrooms:
This one was not photographed quite as well, but the text reads: "Whiteboard ghost has... School Spirit! ...(and your markers.)"

More sightings to come!

I haven't forgotten! Things are just a bit busy around here, so this may end up being a semi-weekly blog.

At any rate, Happy Year of the Rat! I made a rather uncouth error about this earlier in the week:
It is technically not Chinese. And a good samaritan kindly showed me the err of my ways:

I am more than willing to admit to such mistakes. But it also got me thinking... in today's global culture, is it solely Asian either? As such, I backtracked to the more general form:

A bit like using "Happy Holidays" in December, but with cute rodents.

I'm actually a rat myself... of the "wood" variety, apparently. Hopefully it'll be a good year for me; it's certainly bound to be a busy one, what with graduation looming in the not-too-far-off distance. I'm sure I'll be able to find a way to stay sane.

'Til next time, 元気で!
